Law Enforcement Guidelines

Last updated: October 6, 2026

These guidelines are for law enforcement officers and government agencies who want to request information about Sober AF Dating ("Sober AF", "we", "us") accounts. They explain how we handle those requests and how we protect our members' privacy while doing so. They should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

The short version: we share member information only when valid legal process requires it, or when we believe in good faith that it is needed to prevent death or serious physical injury. Every request is reviewed individually, and we ask for the minimum needed.

1. Who these guidelines are for

These guidelines are only for authorised law enforcement officers and government officials making requests in an official capacity. Members, their lawyers, or other private parties looking for information should not use this process — see Information for members below.

2. Legal process we require

We disclose member information only in line with applicable law and our Terms of Service. In general:

We may refuse or push back on requests that are too broad, unclear, or not legally valid. We do not give law enforcement direct access to our systems.

3. How to submit a request

Send requests by email from an official government or agency email address to support@soberafdating.com, with the subject line "Law Enforcement Request". Attach the legal process as a PDF. We do not accept requests from free email services (for example, Gmail or Outlook.com) unless they are verified through other means.

Sending a request by email is only for convenience. It does not waive any objection we may have, including objections to jurisdiction or proper service.

4. What a request must include

A display name or photo alone is usually not enough to identify an account reliably.

5. Emergency requests

If there is an emergency involving an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, we may share information without legal process when we believe in good faith that it is necessary. Email support@soberafdating.com with the subject line "EMERGENCY Law Enforcement Request", and include:

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

6. Information we may hold

What we hold depends on how the member used the Service and on our retention periods described in the Privacy Policy. Depending on the account, it may include:

Some information is held by our partners instead of us. Payment card details are handled by Apple, Google and Stripe, and identity-verification documents are processed by Yoti. Requests for that information should go to the provider directly. Once an account or content has been deleted under our retention policy, we may no longer have it.

7. Preservation requests

While you get formal legal process, we will keep a one-time snapshot of the records for a specific account for 90 days after receiving an official preservation request (for example, under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f)). You can ask once to extend this for another 90 days. Preservation requests must include the same identifying details as a full request.

8. Notice to members

Our policy is to tell members before we share their information, so they have a chance to challenge the request. We will not tell them if the law forbids it (for example, under a valid non-disclosure order), in an emergency, or if telling them would be pointless or could put someone at risk. If a non-disclosure order is needed, it must come with the request.

9. International requests

Requests from outside the United States may need to go through a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), letters rogatory, or another recognised international process. For genuine emergencies, we will consider requests from any country using the emergency process above.

10. Child safety

The Service is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We have zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation. We remove such content and report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as the law requires. See our Child Safety Standards.

11. Information for members

If you are a member and want a copy of your own data, see "Your rights & choices" in our Privacy Policy. If you feel unsafe because of another member, report them in the app and contact your local police. Officers can then make a request to us under these guidelines.
